Lara Sunyi

I created "Lara Sunyi" during Independence Day, a time when we celebrate freedom and unity. Yet my heart was heavy—I couldn't stop thinking about Zara, a high school student whose life was tragically cut short. Her story demanded to be told through my art, through acrylic paint and emotion rather than words alone. Working with acrylic allowed me to layer complexity and depth, much like the layers of grief and questions that surround such loss. I wanted to capture not just sadness, but the profound empathy we feel when confronted with the fragility of young lives. This piece speaks to anyone who has felt that weight—the need to witness, to remember, and to hold space for those we've lost.
